Abstract

Managing educational environments and transitioning from old-style methods to modern technologies have become essential in designing attendance and tracking systems. In this research, an efficient and reliable student attendance and tracking system has been presented based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, leveraging the Al-Siraj educational platform. This platform has been modified in this work to inform parents of their children’s daily arrival and departure times. The PHP language is used in programming the platform to receive Radio Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) signals from MKGW4 and W6 beacon devices. These devices are all lightweight, low-cost, low-power consumption, and readily available. The signals are transmitted over cellular networks (CAT.1, NB-IoT, CAT.M, and GSM). Lastly, the MQTT protocol is used to connect to a cloud server for pushing notifications to the parents’ phones. Two MKGW4 devices are well located, surrounded by school buildings, and W6 beacons are worn as individual wristbands for each student. The average number of BLE signals received in 10 seconds is approximately 153. The time required to transfer data from the MKGW4 device to the cloud server is approximately 1 second per entry or exit case. The proposed work achieves excellent results in tracking students using an efficient and flexible approach that is low-cost, easy to use, and provides rapid response times compared to other systems, thereby promoting a safe learning environment. © 2026, University of Bahrain.
