Purpose: This study aims to systematically investigate the concept of supply chain due diligence by analyzing the academic trends and proposing future research directions. Design/methodology/approach: A total of 247 academic papers were analyzed using network text analysis. The selected papers cover diverse topics such as the background of supply chain due diligence, the effectiveness of global guidelines, and corporate response strategies. Through this method, the study identifies major themes and emerging research areas in the field. Findings: The analysis shows that supply chain due diligence guidelines are largely rooted in human rights due diligence frameworks established by international organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) since the 2000s. Key academic themes include: (1) the background and rationale for due diligence, (2) governance restructuring, (3) supply chain transparency, (4) traceability, (5) ethical sourcing, and (6) risk management systems for human rights and environmental threats. Research limitations/implications: This study is limited to a network-based textual analysis and does not include empirical or longitudinal data. Further research may adopt mixed methods or case-based analysis to investigate the practical implementation of due diligence across various industries and regions. Originality/value: This study contributes to the literature by providing the first comprehensive network analysis of supply chain due diligence research. It identifies core academic interests and offers a structured agenda for future research. The insights can support both scholars and practitioners in understanding the evolution of supply chain due diligence and developing effective compliance and risk mitigation strategies in response to global regulatory pressures. © The Author(s).
