Abstract

The consensus around the identity of sport sciences presents unresolved challenges due to the various theoretical or epistemological perspectives that influence it. A scoping review was conducted to map publications in scientific journals that address this topic in databases and bibliographic indexes. Information was sought in Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and the Virtual Health Library using free and controlled key terms and Boolean connectors AND and OR. The process included 34 articles that explore the conceptual or theoretical identity in sport sciences. Overall, the literature reveals different perspectives on theoretical and conceptual identity, with multiple alternatives coexisting and no consensus. In the future, research to examine whether this confusion exists at the practical level from an inductive point of view is proposed. © (2026), (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Szczecinskiego).
