This paper presents a tool developed to quantify and analyse the environmental impact of asphalt mixture projects. It is intended to support green public procurement practices by aiding road owners in making informed decisions about the environmental impact of the asphalt mixtures they procure. The tool can assess 19 environmental impact categories, which can be combined into a single score using the European Union’s recommended Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology. It covers raw material acquisition, asphalt mix production, material transportation, construction, deconstruction and end-of-life phases. The tool allows users to select materials for the asphalt mix, energy sources, transportation modes and operational machinery configurations variables. Lastly, a sensitivity analysis provides insights into how the different variables affect the global warming potential and single score. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s) 2026.
