Abstract

Scholars used work characteristics to illustrate the promising topic of work design. Proactive behavior in today's workplace is a developing research field. This study linked workplace traits to proactive person's environment fit behavior with a mediating role of a motivational state and a comprehensive collection of measures. The researchers used survey research as their method of choice to accomplish this goal. 279 respondents provided self-reporting information, which we collected. SMART PLS 3.2.8 software was used for the analysis. As a result, we conclude that proactive person's environment fit behavior was most likely correlated with task, knowledge, and contextual factors; however, social characteristics and proactive person's environment fit behavior was indirectly linked. The motivational state partially mediates the link between work characteristics (i.e task, knowledge, and contextual characteristics) and proactive person's environment fit behavior while fully mediates between social characteristics and proactive person's environment fit behavior. We encourage further investigation to confirm our findings and broaden our model by identifying additional employee outcomes regarding proactive person's environment fit behavior and social traits. © University of Barcelona, 2026.
